KazTransOil boosted oil transportation to Baku port 12-fold in Jan-AugKazakhstan’s KazTransOil (KTO) boosted Kazakh oil exports in the direction of the Baku seaport by 1,100% in the eight months of 2023, the company said in a press release.“The increase of Kazakh oil transportation from the Aktau seaport was due to a rise in the volume of hydrocarbon exports in the direction of the Baku seaport from 69,000 tonnes to 838,000 tonnes, which is twelve times as much as in the same period of 2022,” the press release says.In January-August of this year, Kazakhstan shipped for export 1.327 million tonnes of oil from the Aktau seaport in the direction of the Makhachkala seaport.Exports of Kazakh oil from the Aktau seaport in the eight months of 2023 totaled 2.164 million tonnes or an increase of 54% year over year. This volume included 520,000 tonnes of crude oil from Tengiz, 252,000 tonnes from the Dunga field, 1.385 million tonnes from the oil fields located on the Buzachi peninsula, and 7,000 tonnes of oil from Kashagan, according to the press release.In April 2023, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev ordered that the volume of oil deliveries via Azerbaijan along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) should be increased. Following the president’s instruction Kazakhstan’s National Company KazMunayGas JSC (KMG) and State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) inked an agreement on the transportation of 1.5 million tonnes of crude oil from the Tengiz oil and gas field in Kazakhstan to Baku for further transportation via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline.KazTransOil JSC, part of National Company KazMunayGas, is the national operator of oil pipelines in Kazakhstan.
