President Joko Widodo has requested that work on national strategic projects (PSN) not be stopped or stalled, particularly the construction of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan. PSN has proven positive in boosting the national economy, absorbing 11 million workers through 161 infrastructure development projects in the last eight years. He asked for the completion of unfinished PSNs by semester I-2024 and to monitor construction thoroughly. The event was attended by the Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning, Hadi Tjahjanto, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, and the General Chair of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin). Local investors are currently developing IKN, which was named PSN last year. The IKN Authority has received 284 letters of intent to invest in IKN, with almost half coming from within the country. Mulawarman University academic Mustofa Agung suggested that if IKN development continues, it must include buffer areas to prevent socio-economic disparities and ensure that the ideal design is implemented effectively and efficiently. He also suggested that existing issues be anticipated as soon as possible to prevent future problems. However, the change in leadership regime after the 2024 elections may lead to IKN development not continuing.
