EV BATTERY FACTORY IS COMMITTED TO DOWNSTREAMING: MINISTER

Southeast Asia's largest electric vehicle (EV) battery factory in Karawang, West Java, has been built, demonstrating the Indonesian government's commitment to downstreaming. Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia stated that the factory uses high technology and will employ Indonesian children later. The investment in the battery cell factory for EVs has reached a total of US$3.1 billion, or Rp54.88 trillion, and is integrated with the Grand Package upstream-downstream battery project. The production facility is the first of two phases planned by PT Hyundai LG Indonesia (HLI) Green Power, with the first phase requiring investment worth US$1.1 billion, or Rp16.28 trillion, with a production capacity of 10 GWh. The second phase, which will begin in January 2024 and begin commercial production in March 2025, will cost US$2 billion, or Rp29.60 trillion, and is estimated to employ 2,800 Indonesian workers. The company's success in realizing investment projects in Karawang cannot be separated from the government's support. PT HLI Green Power is a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Company, LG Energy Solution, and PT Indonesia Battery Corporation. The investment is a follow-up to the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Investment/BKPM and the Hyundai, LG, and IBC Consortium on July 28, 2021.Link di fonte: https://en.antaranews.com/news/293712/ev-battery-factory-is-commitment-in-downstreaming-minister (ICE GIACARTA)
