INDONESIA NEEDS TO BE ONE STEP AHEAD OF DOWNSTREAMING

Kompas, Expert Staff of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Irwandy Arif, Indonesian Mining Association Deputy Chair Ezra Sibarani, KADIN Indonesia's Mineral and Coal Permanent Committee Chair A Rizqi Darsono, and PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park CEO Alexander Barus discussed the Downstreaming Dilema in Indonesia during the Focus Group Discussion with the title "Readiness of Supporting Industries in Absorbing Downstream Products" that took place at Kompas Tower, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (03/10/2023).Indonesia must industrialize to absorb all downstream mineral products and maximize added value. To guarantee downstream businesses run smoothly, Irwandy stressed the need for a unified policy between the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Industry. He also stressed governance and strategy for key national sectors. Ezra stressed the necessity for government-business harmony in policy, grand strategy, investment possibilities, and communication.Business actors face finance concerns, affordable and ecologically friendly energy sources, and building a market for industrialized products, according to Rizaqi. He said the government helped create this market. Barus stressed the importance of human resource capacity and technical mastery in downstreaming and domestic industrialization.
