RIYADH APPROVES SAUDI-KUWAIT RAIL LINK

Saudi Arabia has approved an agreement with Kuwait to construct a railway connecting the two countries.The approval was made during a Saudi cabinet meeting chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at Neom on 26 September.In May, King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud authorised the minister of transport and logistics services or his representative to discuss a draft agreement with Kuwait regarding a rail link connecting the two countries. Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) and the Saudi Public Transport Authority had appointed France’s Systra to complete the feasibility study for a high-speed rail link connecting Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.This month, Kuwait’s Public Authority for Roads & Transportation (Part) received offers for the study and detailed design work for phase one of the country’s planned Kuwait National Rail Road (KNRR) project.The bidders are Lebanon’s Dar al-Handasah (Shair & Partners), France’s Systra, Spain’s Typsa, France’s Egis, Lebanon’s Khatib & Alami, Spain’s Sener, Turkey’s Pro Yapi and China’s China Railway Siyuan Survey & Design Group.
