ETHIOPIA: DOMESTIC PRODUCTION ADDRESSES 77% OF ETHIOPIA’S PAPER DEMAND, MINISTRY

The Ministry of Industry has made an announcement stating that the country's domestic production of paper and paper products now meets 77% of the nation's requirements. The Minister of Industry, highlighted that the decrease in imports can be attributed to the successful establishment of domestic paper product manufacturing capabilities. This achievement is the result of collaborative discussions between the Ministry, stakeholders, and manufacturers, with the aim of addressing the challenges faced by the industry. However, it remains noteworthy that 22.5% of the demand for paper products is still reliant on imports. The Minister emphasized the significance of prioritizing the development of the paper and paper products industry, particularly in a country where more than 30 million individuals are engaged in education. The limited capacity of manufacturers to recycle waste products necessitates further support. The Ministry stated that it was fully committed to resolving the issues faced by the sector and actively collaborates with stakeholders to identify and implement effective solutions.
