Freight transportation between Kazakhstan and China rises 22% - to 21.1 mln tonnes in 9MThe volume of railway transportation between Kazakhstan and China increased by 22% to reach 21.1 million tonnes in 9 months of 2023, the press service of JSC National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) reported."In 9 months of 2023, the total volume of cargo transportation between the countries increased by 22% and amounted to 21.1 million tonnes. Of these, 9.2 million tonnes were transported through the Altynkol-Khorgos railway crossing, which is a 28% increase year-on-year.  The receipt of cargo from China grew by 10% to 8.3 million tonnes, delivery - by 31% to 12.8 million tonnes,” a statement released on Tuesday says.The national railway carrier also informed that in September 2023, the volume of transportation between the two countries went up 24% compared to the same period last year and reached 2.4 million tonnes.“The main driver of traffic growth was the loading of export cargo. Exports to China soared by 57%, to 1.2 million tonnes. In particular, the export of grain cargo plummeted by 125%. Imports in September increased by 13%,” the national company reported.In October, railway workers plan to reach the transportation volume of 2022, which amounted to 23.2 million tonnes and was a historical maximum, KTZ says in a statement.At the 32nd meeting of the mixed commissions of border railways of Kazakhstan and China, the parties agreed to transport 26.8 million tonnes of cargo, which is 3.6 million tonnes more than in 2022. For 2024, the agreed volume of transportation is 27.8 million tonnes of cargo, which should exceed the 2023 figure by 1 million tonnes or 3.7%. (ICE ALMATY)
