Data compiled by Consumer Panel Services GfK show that 86 percent of consumers admit that they must cut down on their spending, which represents an improvement compared to full year 2022 and early 2023, when this figure was at 91 percent. The figures also show that the percentage of consumers struggling to make ends meet reached 30 percent in August 2023, compared to 35-36 percent earlier. According to GfK, if no unforeseen factors having an adverse impact on consumption occur by the end of 2023, in volume terms private consumption is likely to have contracted by 4.5 percent this year compared to 2022.
