POLAND MAY BECOME A LITHIUM POWERHOUSE

Although in Poland there are marginal deposits of lithium, including in Piława Górna and Lutomia, the AGH University of Kraków is running a project consisting of recovering lithium from waste deposit waters, e.g. in mines, which might revolutionise lithium supply. According to AGH’s Ewa Knapik, who is in charge of the project, on an industrial scale, this process could meet ca. 70 percent of the current domestic demand for lithium. Still, she adds that as the demand for lithium is bound to grow, Poland will have to continue to rely on imports, including from Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. (ICE VARSAVIA)
