Lithuania will join the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a specialized UN agency dedicated to eradicating rural poverty in developing countries, the government decided on Wednesday.The Agriculture Ministry says participation in IFAD activities will provide more opportunities to contribute to agricultural support in Lithuania's priority areas and regions and step up cooperation with Western countries.IFAD invests in rural communities, enabling them to improve food security, family nutrition and incomes.  The ministry says the agency's support to developing countries contributes to addressing the global food security crisis and could become one of the key platforms for mobilizing support for Ukrainian agriculture.Ukraine is expected to become an official member of IFAD later this year.
