Achema, a Jonava-based nitrogen fertilizer maker, has resumed the operation of its second ammonia production unit that was suspended for more than a year.Achema's trade union says furloughed workers have been recalled to work after the second unit went online again. Achema employs almost 1,200 people, according to data from Lithuania's social insurance fund SoDra.The Lithuanian Energy Agency said on Monday the re-launch of Achema's second ammonia unit increased the country's weekly natural gas consumption by 30.4 percent.Achema temporarily halted production in August 2022 following a significant increase in natural gas prices. It resumed the operation of its first ammonia unit in October of that year. Production was suspended again in December 2022 and resumed in March.
