SEVEN KOREAN STARTUPS HONORED FOR CUTTING-EDGE INNOVATIONS

The annual startup conference co-hosted by The JoongAng Media Network, KAIST, and Seoul National University recognized seven innovative startups in Korea. The event, named the "International Symposium on Korea, the Country of Innovation and Startups," featured winners in sectors like AI, EV batteries, robotics, and carbon reduction.  The Korean Innovative Start-up Awards ceremony took place on the first day of the two-day symposium, which kicked off Wednesday at the National Assembly in western Seoul. A common theme among the awardees was a focus on reducing Korea's reliance on foreign technologies to strengthen economic and security positions amid global uncertainties. Among the winners, Point2 Technology received an award for its custom-designed high-speed communication semiconductors, E-Tube, which utilizes plastic-based cables as a cheaper alternative to traditional copper or optical cabling. S-Graphene, awarded by the Minister of Science and ICT, is developing a silicon-based anode for EV batteries, aiming for faster charging times and longer driving ranges. ROEN Surgical, another awardee, specializes in flexible surgical robots, with plans to introduce Korea's first surgical robot for kidney stone removal. Mathpresso, recognized by KAIST President Lee Kwang-hyung, operates Qanda, an AI-based education app with visual recognition technology for solving math problems. Asleep, a sleep tech company, won an award for its sleep-aid technology that adjusts the surrounding environment based on the user's sleep patterns.  Luxrobo, awarded by The JoongAng Media Network chairman, is developing an AI-based automation tool for smart device design. Lastly, Humaster, recognized by the National Research Council of Science and Technology (NST) chairman, focuses on using moisture-wicking desiccant materials to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance energy efficiency in industrial facilities.     (ICE SEOUL)
