ETHIOPIA: WIND POWER GENERATES 404MW OF ELECTRICITY

Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) harnessed 404 megawatts of electricity from wind power, as confirmed by Moges Mekonen, the Corporate Communications Director of EEP.The cumulative capacity of Ashegoda, Adama I and II, and Aysha II wind power plants now stands at 404 megawatts. Additionally, a feasibility study has been concluded for 18 wind power projects capable of generating 2,700 megawatts. These proposed projects are slated for locations such as Gode, Kabribeyah, Tulu Guled, and Adigala.Ethiopia is strategically prioritizing the advancement of renewable energy, particularly wind power, as a means to leverage its natural resources and decrease dependence on imported fossil fuels. It boasts the capacity to produce up to 1.3 gigawatts of energy from wind, 45,000 megawatts from hydropower, and 10,000 megawatts from geothermal sources. (ICE ADDIS ABEBA)
