POLAND’S PEKAO BANK IS CONSIDERING TO OPEN BRANCH IN LITHUANIA

Two prominent Polish banks, Pekao and PKO, are eyeing expansion into Lithuania. Pekao aims to establish a corporate client-focused branch, while PKO intends to operate in Lithuania without a physical branch. Both banks are seeking or have gained approval from Polish and Lithuanian regulatory bodies to offer services in Lithuania. They plan to support businesses, especially Polish firms venturing into Lithuania, emphasizing the renewable energy sector. Pekao holds the "single European passport," enabling EEA banking services without a local branch. These banks have ties to state-linked entities, including the Polish government and PZU insurance. Additionally, Orlen, Poland's largest oil company, has tapped Pekao Investment Banking and Green Giraffe for the Baltic Power wind farm project, collaborating with Canada's Northland Power.
