Pursuant to the schedule adopted by the Ministry of Finance, on 1 January 2024 excise duty on high-proof alcoholic beverages will rise by 5 percent and excise duty on cigarettes – by 5 percent, with similar hikes planned until 2027. However, this does not mean that consumers will pay more for such beverages straight away as in the opinion of experts, although the increases will be passed on to consumers entirely, the process will be gradual. Meanwhile, as noted by PKO BP analyst Michał Koleśnikow, a downward trend can be observed in prices of many raw materials used in the production of alcoholic beverages and their packaging, including grains, glass and plastics.
