POLISH WOMEN INCREASINGLY ACTIVE ON LABOUR MARKET

The latest Labour Force Survey for Q3, 2023 conducted by the Central Statistical Office (GUS) shows that the female labour force participation rate exceeded the 50-percent threshold for the first time since the political transformation, reaching 51.5 percent. GUS experts also note that although the rate is higher for men, standing at 64 percent in Q3, the female participation rate rose to a greater extent both in quarterly and annual terms. Commenting on the survey, economist Jacek Męcina notes that the increase in the female participation rate is driven by two factors, i.e. the persistently high inflation, which has reduced considerably the value of the 500+ allowance, and minimum wage increases, which have made work more attractive.
