POLISH INVESTMENTS ABROAD UP BY EUR 4.78 BLN IN 2022

The value of Polish investments abroad amounted to PLN 130.5 billion (EUR 30 bln) in 2022, which is PLN 20.8 billion (EUR 4.78 bln) more than a year prior, according to a new report. The state-owned investment fund PFR TFI, the Polish unit of the accountancy firm PwC and the business insurer KUKE published a report on Thursday that analysed perceptions of changes in the foreign direct investment (FDI) market and their possible impact on operational activities. It was conducted in October this year among 120 Polish large and medium-sized companies, which invest abroad. The authors focused on the most promising expansion directions for Polish companies, focusing on the markets of Central and Eastern Europe and Asia. The best destinations for foreign investment included the Czech Republic, Romania, Ukraine, Japan, Kazakhstan and Malaysia. The report’s findings also show that the cumulative value of Polish investments abroad in 2022 amounted to PLN 130.5 billion (EUR 30 bln) and was PLN 20.8 billion (EUR 4.78 bln) higher than a year earlier. The most attractive region for Polish companies is Europe."86.9 percent of all investment concentrated in the Old Continent," said the report. This growth has taken place despite changes in the balance of power in the global economy and the fact that global GDP growth has significantly slowed down, according to Pawel Oleszczuk, deputy head of PwC Poland."In addition to geopolitical turmoil, the FDI market is currently being impacted by, among other things, the energy transformation and digital transformation," he said.In the view of PFR TFI's Piotr Kuba, the success was due to the expansion destinations preferred by Polish companies."The CEE (Central and Eastern Europe - PAP) countries, which are closer to us geographically and culturally, as well as the less obvious but fast-growing Asian markets, are characterised by high resilience to economic and geopolitical turbulence and high business potential," he said.  (ICE VARSAVIA)
