HOTEL INDUSTRY IN TAIWAN REPORTS STRONG VISITOR GROWTH IN Q1-Q3 2023

Taipei, Nov. 28 (CNA) Taiwan's hotel industry reported strong growth in visitor volume during the first nine months of 2023, at a level close to that before the COVID-19 hit in 2019, the Tourism Administration said Tuesday. The sector saw roughly 50.3 million visitors between January and September, up 23.21 percent year-on-year and down just 6.65 percent from the same period in 2019, the administration said in a statement.Much of the momentum was contributed by domestic travel, the administration said, pointing out that local hotel visitor volume has remained high even after Taiwan reopened its border in October 2022.Domestic visitor volume from January to September 2023, was 2.27 million higher than the same period a year ago, as well as 6.94 million higher than in 2019, the administration said, explaining it as a result of people's changing travel behavior after the pandemic. In addition, the average room price per night for tourist hotels this year has increased from NT$4,125 last year to NT$4,626 (US$147), growth of 12.15 percent, administration data showed. The increased cost reflects the fact that the segment is moving toward providing more diverse and high-end services, as well as dealing with higher operational costs, the administration explained.(By Yu Hsiao-han and Lee Hsin-Yin)Enditem/AW (ICE TAIPEI)
