COAL EXIT TARGET MAY BE ACHIEVED EARLIER THAN PLANNED

A report published by the Polish Economic Institute (PIE) and the Polish Development Fund (PFR) shows that Poland may complete the shutdown of its coal mines already in 2040 instead of 2050 as originally assumed, provided that the country clears hurdles to solar and wind energy rollout as well as deploys nuclear power. The report also shows that the state of the transmission and distribution networks as well as investments in energy storage facilities with a view to stabilising the power system will remain a challenge.
