HISTORIC YEAR FOR POLISH RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES

In 2023, renewable energy sources generated 25.8 percent of electricity in Poland, thus outstripping lignite as the biggest component of the country’s energy mix. In detail, last year RES generated a total of 74.8 TWh of electricity, compared to 27.9 TWh in 2022, 22.7 TWh in 2021 and 19.7 TWh in 2020. However, further RES rollout will face challenges as more than 60 percent of applications to connect new RES to the national electricity grid are rejected due to outdated distribution infrastructure.
