SHIPPING COMPANIES INFORM JORDANIAN MERCHANTS OF DELAYED SHIPMENTS, INCREASE FEE

Abdullah Mismar-International shipping companies informed Jordanian merchants that the arrival of some shipments postponed due to the crisis in the Red Sea, which is the result of shipping irregularities as a result of the events coinciding with the Israeli occupation's aggression against the Gaza Strip, according to what merchants told Ammon.Merchants expressed their fear that the supply chains of food and basic supplies to the Kingdom would be affected, especially with the approach of the Holy month of Ramadan, and its impact on prices, noting that navigation companies decided to raise shipping fees and charges.President of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) Khalil Haj Tawfiq told Ammon that the JCC in cooperation with the Ministry of industry and Trade, is following the events, and is in contact with international companies to ensure that the Kingdom and its supply chains are not affected by the events. While JCC's president said that things are currently under control, he did not hide his fears of negative repercussions on the Jordanian market in the future, as it will be affected by the rise in prices and delayed arrival of shipments. He also reassured Jordanians that the local stock has not been affected so far, whether in prices or quantities, explaining that the decisions of some companies that have decided to raise fees so far are unjustified.Accordingly, Haj Tawfiq stressed communication is underway with them to cancel the fees, and coordination is being made to ensure that goods coming to the Kingdom are not affected in the coming period, especially food and Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr imports.Haj Tawfiq called on the government to provide facilities, whether customs or otherwise, through temporary decisions that enable merchants to prepare for the worst scenarios so that the Kingdom is ready for any developments. He stressed also that speed and boldness in making decisions mitigate the effects of what is happening in the Red Sea on merchants and citizens.Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply confirmed that food supply chains are operating as usual without problems or imbalances due to what is happening in the Red Sea."There are no increases in the prices of goods due to the unrest in the Bab al-Mandab Strait region, and that goods are available in the local market, whether imported from different origins or locally produced food commodities," the Ministry confirmed.
