IRAQI MINISTER ORDERS DOUBLING OF CEMENT PRODUCTION

Iraq's Minister of Industry and Minerals, Dr. Khaled Batal Al-Najm, has ordered the doubling of cement production to meet the rising demand for essential construction materials.According to a statement from the Ministry, this surge in demand is driven by ongoing infrastructure projects and the government's plan to build fully serviced residential cities.The visit to the Iraqi Cement Company included:Meeting with the company's board to discuss its current status, achievements in 2023, plans for 2024, and legal and technical aspects related to the rehabilitation, modernization, development, and operation contract for the new Badush Cement Plant. Minister Al-Najm issued directives, including:Increasing production in line with the government's future plan to achieve over 52 million tons of cement annually.Developing future visions for enhancing the capacities of the Kufa and Najaf cement plants and increasing their production.Planning and studying the feasibility of establishing new lines and plants in other locations in partnership with the private sector, considering environmental commitments and regulations.Securing cement plants' needs from locally produced materials by sister ministry companies.Taking necessary actions to resolve issues in some plants and improve their operational and production conditions.Holding a press conference to announce:The ministry's efforts and future plans to provide essential construction materials, especially cement, iron, and bricks.Offering investment licenses through the General Directorate for Industrial Development and the National Investment Commission (NIC) for establishing cement plants, considering geographical distribution across provinces.Establishing five-year and ten-year plans to reposition the company, increase production, and overcome challenges.Formulating a clear strategic vision to achieve self-sufficiency and align with construction projects in the coming years.
