Kazakhstan may acquire another two tankers to transport Tengiz oilKazakhstan is going to buy another two Aframax tankers to transport oil from the Tengiz field, said Yerbolat Mendybayev, the head of KMG transportation and logistics department.“KMG is conducting negotiations with Chevron and Tengizchevroil seeking the conclusion of a long-term agreement for oil transportation in the open seas -- from the seaports of Novorossiysk and Ceyhan. Once the agreement is reached, we will acquire one or two Aframax tankers to add to our fleet,” Mendybayev said in an interview with KMG’s press service published on Friday.Today, the joint fleet of Kazakhstan’s National Maritime Shipping Company KazMorTransFlot LLP (KMTF)and Abu Dhabi Ports Group (ADP) consists of 4 Aframax tankers, two of which are owned by KMTF and the other two by ADP.National Company KazMunayGas JSC is the national operator for exploration, production, processing and transportation of hydrocarbons. The company represents the state interests in the oil and gas sector of Kazakhstan.The Tengiz field in west Kazakhstan was discovered in 1979 and now is one of the world’s deepest producing super giant fields. Estimated oil in place in the Tengiz field is 3.2 billion metric tonnes. The operator of the Tengiz field is Tengizchevroil, a joint venture between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Chevron Corporation organized in April 1993. The current partners are: Chevron (50%), KazMunayGas (20%), ExxonMobil Kazakhstan Ventures Inc (25%) and LUKOIL (5%). (ICE ALMATY)
