Kazakhstan boosted exports by rail to neighboring countries in 2023Kazakhstan’s exports by rail to China, Uzbekistan and Russia rose significantly in 2023, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), the national railway operator in Kazakhstan, said in a press release.In 2023, exports to China grew by 35% to reach 12.7 million tonnes, which included a large increase in the export of grain, non-ferrous metals and petroleum products.Exports by rail to Uzbekistan grew by 29% to 10 million tonnes, including petroleum products, chemicals, fertilizers and ferrous metals, as well as about 3.5 million tonnes of grain and 3.1 million tonnes of coal, according to the press release.The volume of transportation to Russia last year went up by 3.3% to make 34.6 million tonnes, including 1 million tonnes of grain, 1.7 million tonnes of petroleum products, 4.5 million tonnes of chemicals and soda, as well as 20.3 million tonnes of coal, of which 8.9 million tonnes was transported through Russia to third countries, KTZ said.Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) is a transport, warehousing and distribution company, which is part of Kazakhstan’s National Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna.
