Nuclear power will account for 4.7% of all electricity generation in Kazakhstan by 2035 – energy ministryThe share of nuclear energy in Kazakhstan’s total power generation will come to 4.7% by 2023, according to preliminary calculations, Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev said."According to the power industry development plan, the structure of electricity generation by 2035 is expected to look as follows: 24.4% of power will be generated by renewable energy sources, 10.8% by hydro plants, 25.8% by gas-fired power plants, 34.3% by coal-fired plants and 4.7% by nuclear power plants,” Satkaliyev said at a Tuesday meeting of the government.In the future, power generation by coal-fired plants will be gradually replaced by renewable energy sources, so the carbon offset is anticipated to amount to 44 million tonnes of CO2 a year by 2035, Satkaliyev said.By 2035, Kazakhstan will put into operation power generation assets with a total installed capacity of 6.7 GW. These will include new gas-fired power heat and power plants in Aktau, Atyrau, Aktobe, Taraz, Kyzylorda and Shymkent with a total installed capacity of 2.4 GW, the minister said.A 500 MW heat and power plant will have been commissioned in Zhezkazgan by the end of 2029, he added.
