Kazakh prime minister orders construction of third power unit at Ekibastuz GRES-2Construction of a third power generation unit at Ekibastuz GRES-2, a power plant in the Pavlodar region, should begin within a month, Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov said.“The progress of large projects that were launched earlier is now being delayed; such projects include the construction of a third power generation unit at Ekibastuz GRES-2. This project must be started within a month,” Smailov said at a Tuesday meeting of the government.The repairs of the first power generation unit at Ekibastuz GRES-1 is to be completed this year, the prime minister said. He ordered Samruk-Energy to make sure that the project should be completed successfully.This year is also to see the start of construction of Aktobe-Atyrau overhead line to enable the connection of the power grid of west Kazakhstan to the central power grid operated by KEGOC, Smailov added.
