Kashagan liquefied petroleum gas to be supplied to Kazakhstan market from end of 2025The Ministry of Energy has reached a preliminary agreement to supply Kashagan liquefied petroleum gas on the Kazakhstan market, the press service of the Ministry of Energy reported.“Today, on January 16, 2024, as part of the execution of the Government’s instructions to supply the domestic market with liquefied petroleum gas, the Ministry of Energy, together with the shareholders of the Kashagan field, reached a preliminary agreement on the supply of liquefied petroleum gas to the domestic market,” the message released on Tuesday says.National Company QazaqGaz is nominated to negotiate with the shareholders of the Kashagan field on future potential supplies of liquefied petroleum gas produced at the Bolashak oil and gas processing plant.“Today, the parties are collaborating towards making a final investment decision on an infrastructure project for liquefied petroleum gas in 2024. It is planned that supplies of liquefied petroleum gas to the Kazakh market will begin by the end of 2025,” the Ministry of Energy said.By 2027, after completion of infrastructure work at the Kashagan field, production of liquefied petroleum gas is expected to reach 700,000 tonnes per year, the press release says.In September 2023, the operator of the Kashagan field - North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC) began construction of a gas pipeline with annual throughput capacity of 1 billion cubic meters to the future gas processing plant (GPP) owned by Kazakh state company QazaqGaz.The length of the gas pipeline from the Bolashak oil and gas processing plant to GPP will be about 15 km.  16-inch pipes are used for construction.It was noted that the successful launch of this project will increase oil production at the Kashagan field by approximately 25,000 barrels per day.The implementation of this project will provide the regions of Kazakhstan with natural gas. The gas processing plant with the capacity of 1 billion cubic meters per year is expected to be put into operation in 2025. Another gas processing plant with the capacity of 4 billion cubic meters per year is planned to be built by 2028. Commercial gas from these two plants will be transported via the Central Asia - Center gas pipeline, and for the northern and southern regions of the country - through the Beineu - Bozoi - Chimkent gas pipeline.Kashagan is the first offshore oil and gas field in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea, as well as the largest international investment project in the country. Its recoverable reserves range from 9 billion to 13 billion barrels of oil. Commercial production there began on November 1, 2016. In 2022, 12.7 million tonnes of oil were produced at the field.NCOC shareholders are KMG Kashagan B.V. (16.877%), Shell Kazakhstan Development B.V. (16.807%), Total EP Kazakhstan (16.807%), AgipCaspian Sea B.V. (16.807%), ExxonMobil Kazakhstan Inc. (16.807%), CNPC Kazakhstan B.V. (8.333%), Inpex NorthCaspian Sea Ltd. (7.563%). (ICE ALMATY)
