Astana's 2035 plan approved for 2.3 million population growth - governmentThe Kazakh government has endorsed a master plan for the capital until 2035, focusing on rapid city development amid population growth, as stated by the Cabinet of Ministers' press service on Wednesday."Currently, the capital's population is nearly 1.2 million people, with expectations that by 2035, this number will increase to 2.3 million people,” the press service said in a statement.“The amount of investment for the implementation of the master plan until 2025 from all sources will amount to 6.3 trillion tenge. Of this, private investment in housing construction is about 4.3 trillion tenge, for infrastructure projects - 700 billion tenge,” according to the statement.The plan aims to enhance social, housing, and utility services, along with improvements in transport and energy infrastructure.Construction projects include 164 schools, 178 kindergartens, and 93 healthcare institutions by 2035. "Funding for these projects, including 15 modern schoolchildren's palaces expected by 2029, will be sourced from both the local budget and private investments,” according to the statement.In terms of urban infrastructure, the plan targets an expansion of the capital's housing stock to 68.2 million square meters and an increase in the road network to 2,500 kilometers per 1000 km. "The development also includes measures to introduce alternative public transport options and the construction of five large bridges to alleviate traffic congestion, particularly in the Yesil area," according to the statement.Water supply considerations involve the construction of pumping and filtration station No. 4, catering to 210,000 cubic meters per day, and the expansion of the Telmana pumping station, with a production capacity of up to 160,000 cubic meters per day.For heat and electricity, the plan outlines the construction of the second stage of CHPP-3, four new gas thermal stations, the expansion of CHPP-2, and the commissioning of 14 110/10 kV substations.Addressing gas supply issues, the plan involves increasing the capacity of existing automated gas distribution stations AGDS-1 and AGDS-2, along with the construction of AGDS-3. The latter will be connected to the Saryarka main gas pipeline through a new branch spanning over 71,000 km.Additionally, the plan highlights the ongoing development of Astana's "Green Belt," with an allocation of an additional 2,700 hectares. Concurrently, efforts will be made to enhance public and courtyard spaces within the city. (ICE ALMATY)
