On November 28,2023 over a hundred wine enthusiasts gathered for Brunello Day, a global tasting event part of the Benvenuto Brunello series organized by the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino in collaboration with ITA Agenzia Toronto. Led by host Michael Godel, the event featured a preview of 2019 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG wines and 2018 Riservas, providing insights into the challenges of the 2023 rainy vintage and the favorable conditions of the 2019 wines. The 2018 Riservas, known for their cooler vintage, showcased a softer, pure Sangiovese expression with cherry notes, emphasizing the adaptability of winemakers in the face of climate change.In the tasting, the 2019 wines were described as rich and complex with hedgerow fruit flavors, while the 2018 Riservas offered elegance and were deemed ready for consumption. Godel's predictions foresee a growing appreciation for fresher vintages as climate change continues, highlighting the significance of winemaking in the information age and the accumulated knowledge shaping wines from challenging weather conditions.
