Deputy Minister of Infrastructure has announced plans to enhance Poland’s rail transport sector by introducing competition in the long-distance rail market and that one should not prevent carriers willing to operate in Poland from entering the rail market while a well-managed PKP Intercity will be able to effectively compete with foreign carriers. The deputy minister also noted that pursuant to EU law, the rail market would become open to competition as of 2030, something that PKP should be prepared for much sooner, including by improving efficiency and running more trains in the commercial system.
