MAYOR OF ROME ON TURNING THE ETERNAL CITY INTO A “GLOBAL CAPITAL OF CINEMA”

Rome is experiencing a cinematic renaissance reminiscent of its golden age, attracting Hollywood productions and filmmakers to the iconic Cinecitta film studios. The surge in film production, from Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible to Matteo Garrone's Oscar-nominated Lo Capitano, can be attributed to strategic initiatives. Rome's mayor, Roberto Gualtieri, explains that a powerful tax credit, coupled with significant investments in audiovisual industries and expanding Cinecitta, has propelled the city's resurgence. The tax credit, offering a 40 percent rebate on production expenditures, serves as a compelling incentive, while Rome's unique and cinematic setting contributes to its appeal. Gualtieri emphasizes the importance of cinema in repositioning Rome as a hub of innovation and sustainability, with the city granting permission for outdoor shooting, leading to a remarkable increase in film and series productions in 2023.
