EAEU countries increasing sugar production this season to 7.6 mln tonnes - AssociationEAEU sugar factories will produce 7.6 million tonnes of sugar this season (August 2023 - July 2024), which will be the second best result after the 2019/2020 agricultural year, the Eurasian Sugar Association said.Last season, 7.05 million tonnes of sugar were produced (6.5 million tonnes of beet sugar and 550,000 tonnes of raw sugar).By January 29, 30 factories were continuing to process sugar beets in the EAEU countries. Since the beginning of the season, 51.5 million tonnes have been processed, of which 7.14 million tonnes of sugar have been produced, 704,000 tonnes more than prior year. "Sugar resources will be sufficient both to meet the needs of the union's internal market and for export, mainly to countries in Central Asia," the release said.There are currently 28 factories operating in Russia versus 17 last year. Since the beginning of the season, 45.7 million tonnes of sugar beets have been processed and 6.43 million tonnes of sugar have been produced, versus 5.83 million tonnes last year. Because of the high volume of sugar beet procurement, four factories in the Central Federal District and Altai Territory will continue processing it in March. Beet sugar production this season is expected to be almost 6.8 million tonnes, which is 11% more than last season.In Belarus, sugar beet processing is complete, with 580,000 tonnes of sugar produced. In February-April, the processing of beet syrup will continue, from which at least another 80,000 tonnes of sugar will be produced. The total production of beet sugar will be 665,000 tonnes, 12.7% more than last season.In Kazakhstan, two out of three sugar factories continue to process sugar beets, with 51,200 tonnes of sugar produced. Completion of processing is expected in early February. Total production volume will be 53,000 tonnes, which is 60% more than the previous season.In Kyrgyzstan, which has completed its sugar beet processing, 75,700 tonnes of sugar was produced, which is 26% more than the previous season.
