GDT NETS $75 MILLION FROM E-COMMERCE

In 2023, the General Department of Taxation (GDT) in Cambodia collected $75.5 million in value-added tax (VAT) on e-commerce, a 71% increase from the $44 million recorded in 2022. The tax was collected from non-resident taxpayers of enterprises, suppliers of goods, and electronic services from abroad. The success of tax collection is attributed to the strengthening of the GDT's management system, the growth of a tax payment culture, and increased compliance. The government started implementing e-commerce VAT in April 2022, taxing companies like Google, Facebook, YouTube, Alibaba, Microsoft, and TikTok. (ICE BANGKOK)
