GOVT SLASHES IMPORT DUTY ON MOBILE PARTS

The government has slashed import duties on mobile phone parts from 15% to 10% in a bid to make India more competitive in mobile phone manufacturing and remove interpretational issues.Mobile phone parts including mechanical and plastic input parts such as the SIM socket, battery cover, main cover, screws, GSM antennae from 15% to 10%.Further, duties on display assembly parts of LCD panels have been rationalised to 10%.The rationalisation in import duty tariffs will help the likes of Apple and Samsung in scaling up exports, making them more competitive among other countries, say experts. The development comes after industry association India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) submitted a report comparing import duties between India, China, Vietnam and other countries, highlighting a steep cost disability due to high tariffs on input parts. The industry had also called for streamlining the current complex tariff structures by bringing in just three slabs of 0%, 5% and 10% by 2025.Read more at:https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/economy/foreign-trade/govt-slashes-import-duty-on-mobile-parts/articleshow/107280608.cms (ICE MUMBAI)
