SIEM REAP HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY BRIMMING WITH OPTIMISM

Leading hoteliers in Cambodia are optimistic about the potential of the new Siem Reap International Airport to boost visitor numbers. Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor General Manager Joseph Colina anticipates more flights from the new airport and the upcoming Phnom Penh airport in 2025. Giulio D'Alberto, General Manager of Zannier Hotels, Phum Baitang, believes the airport's effectiveness will dictate the fortunes of bigger players like Raffles, Hyatt, and Sofitel. However, D'Alberto warns that the second and third quarters will see problems emerge as Europeans start traveling during the recession, reducing excesses, and preferring to travel within the continent. The hotel industry in Cambodia is expected to generate $106.8 million in revenue volumes for 2024, with an annual growth rate of 9.20 percent. However, demand remains below expectations, and some hotels may struggle for survival. (ICE BANGKOK)
