CAMBODIA’S ECONOMY PROJECTED TO HAVE GROWN BY 5.3% IN 2023: IMF

Cambodia's economy is expected to grow by 5.3% last year, driven by tourism and strong non-garment exports, according to the International Monetary Fund's executive board. However, risks include weaker-than-expected growth in the US and China, US monetary tightening, and high private debt. The country's fiscal deficit widened due to COVID-19, cost-of-living crisis, and infrastructure projects. The deficit is expected to narrow starting this year, with public debt to GDP increasing moderately. Near-term threats include demand weakness from advanced economies, recovery slowdown in China, high private debt, and tighter global financial conditions. (ICE BANGKOK)
