Aktau seaport boosted cargo handling 12.7% in JanAktau International Sea Port handled more than 360,000 tonnes of cargos in January 2024 or an increase of 12.7% compared with the same period of the previous year, the press service of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) said in a Tuesday press release.In January of this year, the Aktau seaport handled 3,000 tonnes of grain and 310,000 tonnes of oil and petroleum products.In the reporting month, the seaport served over 2,300 TEU containers, which is an increase of 30% year over year. This included more than 2,000 TEU containers for the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) or twice as many as in the same period of the previous year.National Company Aktau Commercial Seaport JSC is part of National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, the national railway operator. The Aktau seaport is situated on the Mangyshlak peninsula of the Caspian Sea. The handling capacity of the port is 2.5 million tonnes of dry cargoes a year, 4,000 tonnes of grain, 12 million tonnes of oil and 2 million tonnes of ferry cargoes. In September 2023, the Aktau port was granted the status of an international seaport.The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) is an international transport corridor that runs through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and further to Turkey and European countries. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is part of the corridor. The capacity of TITR is expected to reach 10 million tonnes of cargoes a year by 2025. (ICE ALMATY)
