CAMBODIA EXPECTS OVER MILLION EVS BY NEXT DECADE

Cambodia is expected to have over a million electric vehicles by 2030 and 100,000 by 2042, according to the Electric Vehicle (EV) Roadmap for Charging Stations. This massive increase in EVs is expected to result in a significant reduction in national electricity consumption, with EVs accounting for between 0.7% and 2.8% of the country's total. The use of electric vehicles can reduce fuel expenditure by an average of $133 per year for electric motorcycles and $1,069 for electric cars, resulting in potential savings of $14 million to $78 million per year by 2030. The country will need a large infrastructure of charging stations, estimated to be between 9,900 and 33,800 by 2050, requiring investment between $168 million and $576 million. Battery disposal facilities will also be required by 2040 and 2050. The private sector will support the infrastructure investment, with an early incentive program to develop a network of fast charging stations. (ICE BANGKOK)
