KAZAKHSTAN-ROADS-TOLLING

Ministry of Transport plans toll road fee increase for 2024The Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan, Marat Karabaev, has announced the possibility of toll road tariff increases in 2024."Of course, we're planning to increase the tariff. Let me explain why: since 2013, it hasn't changed for 11 years. Last year, there was a 20% increase. Compare our tariffs with other countries. Good roads require maintenance,” Karabayev told journalists on the sidelines of the Senate. The minister stressed the importance of assessing the funds needed for road maintenance and acquiring additional equipment before discussing the proposal with the public."Our specialists need to calculate the funds required for road maintenance and the purchase of an additional 1,100 units of equipment. We can't burden society with all these costs at once. This will be specified in a regulatory legal act. We plan to start these discussions in March," he said.Previously, toll road charges were increased by 20% on October 3, 2023, impacting 2,300 kilometers of four-lane roads. These included sections from Khorgos to Almaty, Western Europe to Western China, and various routes linking Astana to cities such as Shchuchinsk, Pavlodar, and Karaganda. (ICE ALMATY)
