The National Bank of Poland (NBP) has reported that in 2023, the banking sector generated a net profit of PLN27.56bn, which represents an increase by a whopping 159.7 % on 2022. Although in December 2023 alone the sector posted a net profit of only PLN5m, the preceding months had been particularly abundant, especially April and August, in which months the sector raked in more than PLN4bn. According to experts, it is noteworthy that the sector delivered such a staggering performance despite loan repayment holidays, settlements with CHF borrowers as well as provisions established against the legal risk related to CHF loans.
