POLAND WITH BIGGEST INCREASE IN OLD-AGE DEPENDENCY RATIO

Eurostat has reported that as of 1 January 2023, the EU’s old-age dependency ratio, defined as the ratio of the number of elderly people aged 65 and over, compared with the number of people of working age, i.e. aged 15-64, stood at 33.4%. As noted by Eurostat, the ratio had increased by 5.7% since 1 January 2013, when it was at 27.7%. The highest ratios were registered in Portugal (38 %) as well as Italy and Finland (37.8 % each), and the lowest in Luxembourg, Ireland and Cyprus, i.e. 21.5%, 23.2% and 24.7% respectively. Meanwhile, the largest increase in the ratio was recorded in Poland, i.e. +10.4%. (ICE VARSAVIA)
