Tokayev launches transport and logistics center in Xi'anPresident of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has given the go-ahead via a televised conference to launch a transport and logistics center in Xi'an, the presidential press service said in a statement on Wednesday.The center will link China’s Xi'an with Kazakhstan, Central Asia and Europe.The city of Xi'an is a transport hub and a largest dry cargo port in China, accounting for 40% of all cargoes transported by rail from China to Europe.The handling capacity of Kazakhstan’s terminal at Xi'an port is over 66,500 TEU containers a year (twenty-foot equivalent units).Tokayev also launched an innovation center created by Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC together with China’s Huawei.“This project is part of the global initiative One Belt, One Road. Kazakhstan fully supports this initiative that was announced by President Xi Jinping in 2013 when he visited Kazakhstan. Owing to this initiative, the construction of the center was completed in a shortest possible time.  (…) This project will give a new impetus to development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor and will strengthen trade and economic cooperation in the Eurasian region,” Tokayev is quoted as saying.
