OIL FUEL FUND’S BURDEN COULD BE OFFSET BY PROPOSED RISE IN DIESEL CAP

The Oil Fuel Fund is considering raising the government's cap on diesel oil retail price from 30 to 32 baht per litre to alleviate its debts. The 30-baht cap, implemented since September, costs the fund over 10 billion monthly and has raised its deficit to almost 100 billion baht. The decision to raise the cap depends on Energy Minister Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, and other measures may be considered to reduce the impact on consumers. The Oil Fuel Fund's status report shows total assets worth 29.33 billion baht and 119.21 billion baht in debts, leaving the fund 89.88 billion baht in deficit. (ICE BANGKOK)
