Mayor's vision: Digitizing every tree to turn city into lush oasis within five yearsAstana's Mayor Zhenis Kasymbek announces plans to expand park areas and green spaces within the next five years."Our goal is to expand parks and connect them with greenery along roads, creating a city surrounded by nature. Over the next five years, we'll increase green space per resident from 14 to 19 square meters, providing accessible green areas for walking,”  Kasymbek said at a government meeting. The Mayor detailed plans to introduce a unified "green map" for the city, digitally tagging each tree with a passport to monitor its real-time condition.Kasymbek mentioned that in 2023, the city completed landscaping for 165 public and courtyard spaces, which involved creating 45 green areas, including 2 parks, 10 squares, and 33 public spaces, with almost 1 million green plants planted."This year, landscaping of event venues for the World Nomad Games will begin in spring. Additionally, there are plans for public space projects, including a park at the EXPO, as well as developments along Kabanbay Batyr Avenue, Konayev, and Dostyk streets,”  Kasymbek said.Earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev urged Astana officials to adopt global practices in improving the city's green spaces. He highlighted the current challenges in landscaping, emphasizing the need for more green spaces, especially along Mangilik Avenue. Tokayev encouraged city leaders to transition from planting seasonal to perennial vegetation, taking into account the capital's harsh climate. (ICE ALMATY)
