SAMSUNG C&T DEVELOPS NEW COOLING SYSTEM FOR DATA CENTERS

Samsung C&T Corp. announced on Wednesday that it collaborated with the domestic cooling system tech company DataBean to develop and commercialize the next-generation cooling system for data centers. The newly developed cooling system by Samsung C&T utilizes a direct immersion cooling method in a non-conductive liquid, cooling servers in a more efficient manner. Compared to conventional cooling methods using air or water, this innovative system is highly efficient and consumes less power, drawing attention as the next-generation heat management approach. The next-generation cooling system has shown an almost 80% reduction in power consumption compared to conventional air-cooled systems and achieved a top-tier power efficiency index of 1.02. The power efficiency index represents the efficiency of power consumption relative to the total power required for IT facility operations, with higher values indicating greater efficiency. This technological advancement enables the comprehensive construction of data centers from design to construction, equipment supply, and core infrastructure. It is expected to significantly enhance quality, and stability while reducing costs and environmental impact substantially.Samsung C&T and DataBean have jointly filed patents domestically and internationally to expand globally in the liquid immersion cooling market. They have already completed the registration of one patent in South Korea. While international companies in the United States, Spain, and elsewhere dominate cooling system-related technologies and lead the world market, securing the next-generation core infrastructure technology independently within Korea is highlighted as a significant accomplishment.
