IEU-CEPA: 17TH NEGOTIATION ROUND MANAGED TO CONCLUDE THREE CHAPTERS

The 17th negotiation round of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) in Bandung, West Java, from 26 February to 1 March reached a “technical conclusion” on three chapters: technical barriers to trade, sustainable food systems, and institutional provisions. Saturday (2/3) Trade Ministry Director of Bilateral Negotiations Johni Martha stated Indonesia and the EU maintained solid progress and met targets. He stated that the two parties have decided to continue communication to limit the remaining difficult problems, find mutually beneficial solutions, and prioritize pragmatism in negotiations. In the 17th round, trade in goods, services, investment, cooperation on sustainable food systems, sustainable trade and development, rules of origin of goods, energy, and raw materials, technical barriers to trade, subsidies, intellectual property rights, institutional provisions, and anti-fraud clauses came up. To meet the Indonesian President and European Commission President's 2024 IEU-CEPA deadline, Martha hoped the positive trend of the last two rounds of discussions would continue. "There are around 20 chapters in the CEPA," stated Trade Ministry Director General for International Trade Negotiations Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono on Tuesday (5/3). Chapters 11 are agreed upon. The appropriate ‘landing zone’ for all sides requires much discussion. Let's end discussions by 2024.” Indonesia has aggressively sought tariff- and non-tariff-free market access under the accord. So we told the EU this is our top priority. He noted that as well as agricultural items, we want market access for manufacturing goods.Link di fonte: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesia-still-wants-to-secure-eu-trade-pact-this-year (ICE GIACARTA)
