Majilis approves tax incentives for science investment in KazakhstanThe Majilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan approved amendments to the Tax Code aimed at fostering scientific development by providing tax incentives.Parliament member Askhat Aimagambetov highlighted that while Kazakh business currently lacks interest in investing in science, global trends demonstrate that the private sector typically invests in scientific advancements, thus driving technological progress.The proposed bill entails reducing taxable income by 50% of the amount allocated for research, scientific, technical, and development endeavors. This reduction applies to entrepreneurs, scientific institutions, and universities involved in implementing their research findings into practical applications."The bill aims to encourage businesses to invest in domestic science, aligning with the president's push for increased activity in this area. As a result, companies investing in science and setting up new scientific centers would receive tax benefits,” he said.President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev aims for Kazakhstan to lead in research within Eurasia. The Ministry of Education and Science announced a 230% increase in the science budget for 2023-2025, totaling 643 billion tenge, with a focus on funding research institutes engaged in fundamental studies.
