Kazakhstan's flower imports surge in 2023, led by roses from EcuadorAccording to the Ministry of Trade and Integration, Kazakhstan saw a 29% increase in flower imports in 2023, with 149.8 million flowers valued at $61.1 million, up from the previous year's $47.3 million.The bulk of imports originated from Ecuador, totaling $37.5 million, followed by the Netherlands at $13.1 million, Kenya at $4.8 million, and Colombia at $3.4 million.Roses were the most sought-after flowers among Kazakhstani consumers, with imports reaching 112 million pieces valued at $40.2 million, representing 65.8% of the total flower imports. Chrysanthemums accounted for 15.8 million pieces worth $7.6 million, constituting 12% of the total volume, while lilies comprised nearly 2.5% with over 3.3 million pieces valued at almost $1.5 million. Carnations and orchids were also imported, with 6 million and 116,600 pieces respectively.According to the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance, January 2024 saw imports of 639.7 tonnes of flowers or 12.1 million buds worth $5 million, a 28% increase in value compared to January 2023, and an 18.6% increase in volume. Roses remained the top choice, with 9.3 million buds worth $3.4 million, followed by chrysanthemums and lilies (1.1 million buds worth $553.800) and (220,200  buds worth $104,200) respectively.Imports originated mainly from Ecuador, the Netherlands, Colombia, China, Kenya, Uzbekistan, and Israel. Additionally, Kazakhstan exported flowers, with Uzbekistan purchasing 27.1 tonnes of Kazakh roses for $40,400. (ICE ALMATY)
