SOCAR, KazMunayGas sign agreement to increase Kazakh oil transit through AzerbaijanFollowing the results of high-level negotiations in Baku on Monday, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan signed a package of documents.The documents were signed in the presence of the Presidents of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the website of the head of the Azerbaijani leader reports.The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and Kazakh KazMunayGas signed two documents: a memorandum of strategic cooperation on the purchase and sale of Kazakh oil and an agreement on a gradual increase in the transit of Kazakh oil through the territory of Azerbaijan.As previously reported, an increase in the transit of Kazakh oil along various routes through Azerbaijan was the subject of discussion last week at a meeting between Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and Kazakh Transport Minister Marat Karabayev in Astana.In addition, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan plan to sign an agreement on strategic partnership in the energy sector.In 2022, the President of Kazakhstan ordered to increase the volume of oil transportation along the Trans-Caspian corridor. In accordance with this instruction, KazMunayGas and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijanentered into an agreement providing for the shipment of 1.5 million tonnes of raw materials per year from the Tengiz field to Baku for further pumping through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline.Kazakhstan intends to increase the volume of oil supplies along the Trans-Caspian route to 3 million tonnes over the next two years.
