COORDINATING MINISTER FOR SMES CALLS RED EDIBLE OIL HEALTHY

Indonesia's Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, Teten Masduki, has announced the launch of a red edible oil factory in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. The factory, managed by a cooperative, is part of an initiative by the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, a partnership between the Pujakesuma Cooperative and PT PTPN II. The factory was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo and is the first in Indonesia to produce new red edible oil products.Currently, over 40% of Indonesia's oil palm plantation land is owned and managed by independent farmers. However, Teten acknowledges the challenges faced by oil palm farmers due to fluctuating prices of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) and dynamic supply and price of cooking oil. He hopes that every 1,000 hectares of palm oil plantations managed by cooperatives will be equipped with a red edible oil factory as complementary infrastructure. The red edible oil factory in North Sumatra is one of three pilot projects in collaboration with PTPN. The Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs is also preparing independent schemes for smallholder oil palm farmer cooperatives in other provinces to replicate the red edible oil factory in North Sumatra. Red edible oil, a product of CPO, retains its phytonutrient compound content, including carotene, tocopherol, tocotrienol, and squalene. This makes it a potential functional food, especially as an anti-stunting food ingredient. It is also suitable for sautéing food, salad dressings, margarine, and shortening.Link di fonte: https://www.antaranews.com/berita/4009512/menkop-ukm-sebut-minyak-makan-merah-sehat (ICE GIACARTA)
